Thermodynamics: Potential Energy

Potential energy represents the stored energy within a system. An example of potential energy is when a system is held at a certain height there is a stored amount of energy within that system which will be released when the system is allowed to fall. This can be calculated using equation 1.

Potential Energy Equation (1)

m = mass

g = gravitational constant

z = height
